The cause of obesity is attributed to excess caloric intake combined with a lack of physical activity, which means the body is unable to turn the extra calories into energy for the body effectively.
Acupunctural treatment can regulate the nerve and hormone functions to achieve two objectives. It can suppress appetite and decrease the stomach’s digestion and nutrients absorption rate into the body, and at the same time, increase the metabolism rate of fat which transforms into energy for the body’s consumption. The fusion of the two will cause weight reduction.
Acupuncture regulates the client’s nervous and endocrine systems in order to decrease energy intake and increase energy consumption.
Recent researches have shown:
- The sympathetic nerves that reduce digestive secretions are emphasized through acupuncture, while the opposing parasympathetic nerves that promote gastrointestinal tract and its secretions are reduced using acupuncture. This means the problem of excess activity in the digestive tract can be reduced, leading to reduction of energy intake.
- Acupuncture can speed up the breakdown of fats which will then oxidize and become ATP (energy). Though initially subtle, the effects can be seen over a period of time. During the treatment process, clients will not experience any low blood glucose level, lethargy, dizziness, or excess perspiration, indicating that fat in the body is constantly breaking down, releasing energy to meet the body’s energy demand.
