Introduction to Chinese Herbal Cordyceps: Good for Your Health

Cordyceps is a Chinese medicine. It is a rare and precious traditional Chinese medicine. It is a form of fungus. It is a species of the larva and the larvae of the Hepidiaceae plant Cordyceps sinensis (BerK.) Sacc. It is called “Cordyceps sinensis’ ‘ because of its “growth” process.

Hepialus moths reproduce and lay eggs in the soil, which then become larvae. Cordyceps fungus will invade the larvae, absorb its nutrients, and continue to multiply, causing the larvae to be filled with hyphae and die.

This is the “winter worm”. In the summer of the following year, the Cordyceps fungus grows into a purple-red grass with a height of 4 to 10 cm on the head of the larva.

“Summer grass” emerges from the ground, is excavated and dried, and it becomes what you commonly see. It is mainly produced in the alpine regions and snow-capped grasslands of Qinghai, Tibet, Sichuan, Yunnan, Gansu, Guizhou and other provinces and autonomous regions.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Cordyceps sinensis is calming in nature and sweet in taste, benefiting the lungs and kidneys. It has the effects of invigorating the lungs and kidneys, arresting bleeding and resolving phlegm, strengthening the body and prolonging life, resistance to hypoxia, lowering blood lipids, antibacterial and detoxification, calming and tranquilizing, relieving asthma and an expectorant; anti-cancer, enhance cardiovascular, blood, liver and kidney functions.

It is suitable for diseases such as deficiency of lung and kidney, lack of essence, cough, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating, night sweats, soreness of waist and knees, impotence and nocturnal emission. According to clinical research reports, Cordyceps also has the effects of lowering blood sugar, anti-tumor, immune regulation, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fatigue.

According to the results of modern pharmacological research, Qinghai Cordyceps contains about 7% of cordycepic acid, 28.9% of carbohydrates, about 8.4% of fat, about 25% of protein, ergot alcohol, six carbon sugar alcohol, alkaloids, etc.

Suitable for: It is a rare and beneficial supplement to the followings: dyspnea, pulmonary fibrosis, various liver diseases, various kidney diseases, heart failure, impotence, cold, dry skin, irritability, insomnia, tumor, metabolic syndrome, lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, prostatitis, susceptible to cold, weakened immunity, old age with ill health, postpartum physical weakness and people of below-par health.

Not suitable for: patients with rheumatoid arthritis should reduce in dosage; total abstain for children, pregnant women and lactating women, people with colds, fever, and cerebral hemorrhage; and those with heatiness of the body should avoid it.
